What is meant by “rule of faith”?

Very simply, prayer (in this case) is a measure of our faith. Prayer informs, builds, supports, and communicates. It forms a key part of a continuum – faith > prayer > faith > prayer > faith > prayer – and so on, through our lives. Another way to look at it is that our faith can be measured by our prayers. If a person wants their faith to increase and strengthen, regular prayer is a key. After all, the LORD is indeed the One who hears our prayers, see http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+6:9&version=ESV. As He does hear, so we ought to pray – always!

Make prayer a regula fidei, a rule/measure of your faith.

Every obstacle will be thrown at those who pray – Première Partie

In the wee, small hours of the morning I am convinced that the still, small voice of the LORD is best heard. During what might be called business hours, you know, 8am to 11pm or so, life in western culture is harried and hectic and sometimes hellacious. Who has time to tend to the voice of the LORD when there are bills to pay, church services to attend, household and other chores to do, mouths to feed, work to be done, errands to run, household items to be repaired, volunteer obligations to be met, pills to take, yards to mow, groceries to buy, conversations with loved ones to be engaged in, exercise to be done, rest to be gained, leisure to be snared, pets to tend to, cars to tend to, e-mail to answer, Twitters to tweet, texts to reply to, homework to do, tests to take, studying to do, relatives and friends and strangers, even, to love, crises to meet and to endure, ad infinitum, ad nauseam… ???

Life is busy enough. But then, even then, when we may settle down to get about praying, evil surrepticiously and circumspectly tempts us with down time activities…time wasters, if you will.

We must learn to give time wasters, obstacles, distractions, temptations, et al, the right hand of shove off. And bid the presence of the LORD engage us and our full attention to Him be given!

Much is to be gained. Eternity is at hand.

Never Give Up!

In a commencement address at Oxford University, Winston Churchill is said to have risen from his seat and walked to the podium, whereupon he proclaimed to the assembled, “Never, never, never give up!” He right then proceeded back to his chair and sat down.

Perseverance in discipline is important in all of life. All of it.

Luke 18:1

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. (English Standard Version)

Luke’s preamble to the parable of the persistent widow is quite revealing. Persevering prayer. Never, never, never give up praying. Look at the words, “not lose heart”. We have our hearts to gain. By praying to God. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Praying revolutionaries, today’s (and each and every day’s) lesson is: The LORD wants us to pray! HE wants us to pray. Later in His earthly ministry, Jesus pleads, “Could you not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40 ff.) If we have God Incarnate illustrating the efficacy of persevering prayer and further admonishing us to its application through such arduous, heart-rending pleading, let us not shirk this call to Never give up praying!!!
